Duncan, BC · Vancouver Island

Web design and web development for Duncan businesses

Duncan businesses sell to three different buyers. There are valley residents, from Mill Bay to Chemainus, who search on a phone and want hours, location and a way to book. There are visitors passing through for the wineries, the Chemainus theatre or the Cowichan Valley Trail. And there are buyers off-Island who will never walk in — for producers and suppliers shipping to Victoria, Nanaimo and the mainland, the website is the whole first impression.

Local search in Duncan

Two things shape local search here. Plenty of businesses with a Duncan mailing address actually sit in North Cowichan, and customers search both ways, Duncan and Cowichan. Map results also favour whoever is closest to the person searching, so a shop on Trunk Road will not always surface for someone in Ladysmith or Mill Bay. A complete Google Business Profile with the right categories and current hours, plus written pages that name the communities you genuinely serve, covers both.

Vancouver Island

Built for a buyer who may never visit

Island businesses often sell to people who will not walk in the door — mainland buyers, visitors planning ahead, or clients who found you from another town. That shifts the work toward clear service pages, honest pricing signals and fast mobile performance, plus a Google Business Profile that names the communities you genuinely serve. Design, build and training are all handled remotely.

Process

How it works

  1. Discovery & plan

Goals, audience, competitors and the searches that matter, turned into a sitemap and content plan.

  2. Design

Page designs for your review, built around your brand and your customers' questions.

  3. Build & content

Development, copy, images, forms, analytics and SEO foundations, tested on real devices.

  4. Launch & care

Redirects, search console setup, monitoring and ongoing updates after the site goes live.

Pricing

How pricing works

Every website project is quoted in writing for an agreed scope — pages, features and content — with hosting and ongoing care listed separately.

Our guide to website costs in Vancouver breaks down what drives the price and the ongoing costs to budget for.

  • Number of pages and page types
  • Copywriting and photography needs
  • Integrations such as booking, CRM or payments
  • E-commerce and product count
  • Multilingual pages
  • Migrating content and redirects from an old site

FAQ

Web Design in Duncan: questions

You are based in Greater Vancouver. How does that work for a business in Duncan?

Honestly, with the distance treated as a fact rather than glossed over. Day-to-day support, Microsoft 365, security, backups, servers and cloud systems are handled remotely, and that covers the large majority of what comes up — none of it depends on being in the Cowichan Valley. When work needs hands on equipment, the trip is planned in advance: a ferry sailing and the drive over the Malahat or down from Duke Point, scheduled so everything gets done in one visit. For cabling we subcontract a local trade. What we do not offer is a same-day call-out.

Our office is in North Cowichan, not the City of Duncan. Does that change anything?

No. The city boundary runs tight around the downtown core, so Beverly Corners, the Boys Road and Allenby industrial area, Cowichan Commons and the Bell McKinnon area all sit outside it, and plenty of valley business is further out again in Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, Cowichan Bay or Mill Bay. Remote support does not notice the difference. For planned on-site work the only thing that changes is the drive at this end, and we will say so if a site is remote enough that it is worth combining the visit with other work.

Should our website say Duncan, or Cowichan Valley?

Both, in the places each one fits. Use Duncan where your address and map listing point, and Cowichan Valley where you describe the area you cover, because customers search both ways and many Duncan addresses are physically in North Cowichan. Name the communities you actually serve — Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, Cowichan Bay, Mill Bay, Lake Cowichan — on a page with real detail rather than in a list of place names. Map results still favour whoever is nearest the searcher, so those written pages are how you reach the rest of the valley.

How much does a small business website cost in Vancouver?

It depends mostly on scope: the number of pages, who writes the content, integrations like booking or payments, and whether you sell online. A written quote for a defined scope is the only reliable number — our website cost guide explains each cost driver and the ongoing costs to plan for.

How long does it take to build a website?

Most of the timeline is decided by content, not code. A small business site moves quickly once page copy, photos and decisions are ready; larger sites with many pages, integrations or e-commerce take longer. We set a schedule at kickoff with dates for each review.

Will my new website rank on Google?

No honest designer can guarantee rankings. What we can do is build the foundations search engines reward — fast pages, clear structure, strong titles and descriptions, structured data and genuinely useful local content — and align the site with your Google Business Profile, which drives map results.

Will I own my website and domain?

Yes. Your domain, hosting account, analytics and content should be registered to your business, with our access granted as a user. If you ever move on, you take everything with you.
